We interviewed one of our outstanding vendors, Paula Earle of Posies by Paulie, to help gather a better sense of what makes a great florist and what should be expected with excellent service.
Q: What made you become a florist?
I was working previously as a landscape contractor and had taken the first Master Gardener class that was offered in Lafayette in the year 2000. I was a licensed landscape contractor with a horticulture state license at the time. I had to have rotator cuff surgery so I was not able to continue. I love flowers so it seemed like a logical choice!
Q: How long have you been in business?
I have been a florist for two years!
Q: Do you offer live and artificial flowers?
Yes, I do fresh and silk florals!
Q: Do you offer other products and/or services? If so, what are they?
I am also a bridal accessories designer! I offer handmade garters, bridal sashes, hair accessories and cake toppers! I offer customized hair pieces and have a large selection of bridal jewelry!
Q: Do you have a specific style or theme that you prefer to work with?
I consider my style vintage sophisticated/garden! My accessories have a vintage influence with lace, pearls and rhinestones!

Q: How far in advance do you need notice for custom orders?
Preferably at least two months in advance to be able to coordinate my time and supplies!
Q: How far in advance should someone book your services for a large event such as a wedding?
At least six to nine months, I already have weddings for next year!
Q: How do you handle communication with your clients, especially on the day of the event?
I always have a consultation with the bride in the beginning. The last two weeks we touch base and the last week I reconfirm counts and details! I try to keep my brides informed of any changes!
Q: When booking your services, what should your client expect to happen? What is your process for planning for an event?
When they meet for their consultation we go over details and I take notes of colors, flower choices, and we share pictures. After initial consultation, I provide a proposal of the amount of confirmed floral choices! After the customer reviews and signs off on deletions and/or additions, I collect 30% which can be paid via PayPal, Venmo, cash or check! The remaining balance is to be paid up in full one month before the wedding/event!
Q: Why do you love what you do?
I love that I get to do what I love at 62 years of age! I am a late bloomer florist! No pun intended!
